Hope you’re having a great day! Here’s today’s Quranic verse for you:

“My mercy encompasses all things” [Quran 7:156]

When all hope seems lost, when injustice and evil prevails, remember this beautiful verse on Allah’s Mercy. Allah is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, and he Sees things we might not be able to see with our naked eyes and limited use of intellectual faculty. In other words, we might not know the wisdom or hikmah behind all the things that have happened to us, so this verse will reassure us that whatever happens is the Divine Decree of Allah the Most Merciful.

Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib: The Greatest Philosopher and Scientist Across All Eras

In this blog, we will cover three topics. First, we will explore Imam Ali’s teachings on geology and the creation of Earth. Then, we will delve into Imam Ali’s role as the first molecular biologist.and Imam Ali (a) on hidden colors.

Imam Ali about Earth’s Creation and Geology. Imam Ali (a.s), a well-known figure, had some extremely remarkable theories regarding how planet Earth came to be along with what it is made of. His teachings, which can be found in Nahjulbalagha, are mind-boggling since they closely parallel what modern science has discovered.

In NehjulBalagha: “Imam Ali about Earth’s Creation and Geology”

Imam Ali (a.s) shared some incredible insights about the Earth and its creation. He says that:

”It is through the strength of God’s greatness and His subtle power of innovation that He made the solid dry earth out of the water of the fathomless, compact and dashing ocean. Then He made from the ocean skies (samawat) and separated them into seven layers (seven layers of atmosphere) after they have been joined together. (Nahjulbalagha: Sermon 209).

Imam Ali’s Concept of Earth’s Atmosphere:

Imam Ali (a) discovered something fascinating: He believed that the Earth’s seven layers of air (atmosphere) originated in the oceans. Additionally, guess what? Modern science has also discovered that the Earth has seven layers. They are as follows:

1. Troposphere

2. Stratosphere

3. Ozonosphere

4. Mesosphere

5. Thermosphere

6. Ionosphere

7. Exosphere

The Earth’s atmosphere in Quran:

This concept aligns with verses in the Quran that mention seven layers of the sky.

“It is He (God) who created everything on earth for you and then directed his attention up to the sky (samawat) and arranged it into seven layers. He has knowledge of all things.”

Al-Quran:2:220

Imam Ali (a) on Origin of Atmosphere from Oceans:

He believed that the sky, which we now refer to as the atmosphere, originated in the Earth’s water. This concept might seem new, however many current scientists, including geologists, have been studying and supporting it. Imam Ali believed that the air we breathe, known as the atmosphere, originated in the oceans.

Modern Science About This Concept:

This is relatively new idea, and scientists are continually learning more about it. Oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide are among the gases found in the atmosphere. These gases make up the majority of the air. Some texts claim that oxygen is formed by the sun’s UV radiation breaking down water, and that hydrogen is formed in the same way. The nitrogen in the air might have come from the ocean’s nitrates, while the carbon dioxide could have come from the ocean’s carbonates. This is all part of figuring out how our world works!

Mountain Roots Concept:

In another part of the same sermon (Sermon 210), Imam Ali (a.s) introduces the concept of mountain roots. He (a) says:

“He (God) also created high hills, rocks of stones and lofty mountains. He put those (mountains) in their positions and made them remain stationary. Their peaks rose into air while their roots remained in water.”

Nahjulbalagha:sermon,209.

Imam Ali (a) tells how mountains are stable, with their summits in the air and roots in the water. This idea, known as “isostasy,” was found in the nineteenth century while academics were studying the equilibrium of the Earth’s crust and atmosphere. Mountain roots were discovered while exploring how the Himalayan mountains maintain their balance.

Teachings of Quran on Mountains Roots:

Although the Quran doesn’t directly mention mountain roots, the verse

“Have we not made the earth as bed and the mountains its pegs?” (Quran: 78:6-7) implies their existence.

The concept of mountain roots was officially identified when George Everest, the surveyor general of India, noticed anomalies in Himalayan data. He collaborated with John Pratt, who in 1850 identified “isostasy” and the concept of mountain roots.

Conclusion:

Imam Ali illustrated amazing intellect by comprehending topics just like Imam Ali about Earth’s Creation and Geology that were only discovered in the nineteenth century. This indicates that there is a strong connection between faith and scientific conclusions. According to what he said, sometimes believing in something comes before actually knowing it scientifically. This kind of knowledge is passed down through generations after generations.

Imam Ali about Earth's Creation and Geology

IMAM ALI (A), THE FIRST MOLECULAR BIOLOGIST OF THE WORLD.

The greatest of all philosophers and scientists throughout history, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, stands as the first molecular biologist of the world. In the words of Carl Sagan, renowned scientist and author,

“At the very heart of life on Earth – the proteins that control cell chemistry and the nucleic acid (DNA) that carry hereditary instructions – we find these molecules to be identical in all plants and animals. An oak tree and I are made of the same stuff. If you go far enough back, we have a common ancestor”

(Cosmos: Carl Sagan, page 24).

This insightful passage is excerpted from the bestselling science book ‘Cosmos,’ authored by Carl Sagan, a prominent scientist and atheist who also served as the director of the Viking mission to Mars at NASA. The key message conveyed here is that all living entities share fundamental ingredients. From viruses to human beings, every living organism possesses chromosomes for storing genetic information, and these chromosomes are composed of DNA, much like how a cloth or shirt is woven from fine continuous threads. Carl Sagan concludes that this shared similarity among all living things underscores the concept of a common ancestry.

Imam Ali In Nehjulbalagha:

Now, turning to another passage, not from Carl Sagan’s work but from Nahjulbalagha, it reads as follows:

“If you tread on the path of your thinking and reach its extremity, it will not lead you anywhere except that the originator of the ant is the same as the originator of the date palm because everything shares the same delicacy and detail, and every living being has slight differences”

(Nahjulbalagha: Sermon 183, page 305).

Remarkably, a thousand-year-old copy of NahjulBalagha is still preserved in the library of Mosul, Iraq. The fundamental message in Imam Ali’s (a.s) passage aligns with Carl Sagan’s, emphasizing the minimal differences among living entities.

Upon analyzing these aforementioned passages, it may appear as if Carl Sagan and Imam Ali (a.s) were contemporaries. However, it is well-known that Imam Ali (a.s) lived 1400 years prior to Carl Sagan. It is truly remarkable that a man living in 700 AD in the Arabian desert, amidst a backdrop of sand, ignorance, wars, and scarce resources, possessed the insight that living things share commonalities and exhibit minimal differences. Astonishingly, Imam Ali (a.s) draws a different conclusion from the similarity among living entities – that they share the same creator. Carl Sagan, a staunch atheist, and Imam Ali (a.s), a devout believer in God, unsurprisingly arrived at opposing conclusions regarding the same phenomenon of the similarity of living beings. A believer can accept both conclusions while maintaining faith, but if an atheist accepts Imam Ali’s (a.s) conclusion, it challenges their atheism.

The discovery of DNA in 1953 reinforced the notion that all living organisms, from viruses and bacteria to plants and humans, share a common genetic foundation, affirming the idea of minimal differences among them. At this juncture, the saying of the Prophet (Pbuh) of Islam holds true: “I am the city of knowledge, and Ali (a.s) is its gate,” underscoring its profound significance.

All praises are due to Allah.

IMAM ALI (A.S) [The Master Of All Sciences]

Imam Ali (a.s) said:

“Every onlooker other than Allah (God) is blind to hidden colors and delicate bodies.”

HIDDEN COLORS:

White light emitted from the lamp, candle, etc., when passed through a prism, gets split into seven colors (shown in the picture) called the spectrum of light. Newton was the first scientist to prove that the light produced from candles and other light sources is made of seven colors (VIBGYOR). Each of the said colors has its own frequency.

Blood appears red because it absorbs all the colors from the white light except red. A mango appears green because it absorbs all the colors except green, but when it ripens, it reflects yellow light because of a change in its composition (ripe mango contains lots of fructose).

If an object reflects two or more than two colors, it appears in the combination of the colors it reflects. This is an explanation for colors in our surroundings, and they are reflected light.

According to Imam Ali (a.s), there are light waves (Hidden Colors) that are invisible to us. In this century, it was discovered that the spectrum of light beyond red contains invisible frequencies known as infrared rays.

One example of infrared light is the light emitted by your TV’s remote control. In the face of the remote control, there is an LED (Torch) that controls your TV with light, but you have never seen that torch is glowing because this is a hidden color.

You can prove this torch of the remote control is actually glowing by a simple experiment. Watch the torch of your remote control (shown in the picture) with the help of your mobile phone’s camera while pressing any key of the remote control. You will see on the screen of your mobile phone that your remote control’s torch is glowing. But it was impossible for you to see that infrared light with naked eyes because it is a hidden color.

Similarly, the wavelengths beyond the violet color were termed as ultraviolet rays. It is also invisible and can be called a hidden color.

When Imam Ali (a.s) knew that there are hidden colors, it can be assumed that he knew everything about light. Well, truth is stranger than fiction.

DELICATE BODIES:

Imam Ali (a.s) says that we are surrounded by organisms so delicate that they are invisible to us. It is obvious that he (as) is referring to microorganisms like viruses, bacteria, and protozoa. These are so small that they cannot be seen by the naked eye.

The world of microorganisms was discovered by Anton von Leeuwenhoek in the 17th century. Imam Ali (a.s) was at least 1000 years ahead of Leeuwenhoek.

That is why the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said Ali (a.s) is the Door of Knowledge.
