Assalamualaikum, We all have often heard about this ayat which says ” Do they not look at the camels how they are made and at the sky how it is raised high and mountains how they are fixed firm and the earth how it is spread out . Therefore give admonition, for you are one to admonish”. (Al ghasiya , 88:17).
Allah gives example of the creation so that we ponder upon them. We humans do not have the ability to see our creator but Allah has given us intellect and by the use of this intellect anyone can conclusily beleive in the existence of Allah, the creator. Therefore in this blog we are going to know about some unique adaptations of camels and what is so special in them that Allah has mentioned camels specifically.
How does the camel survive for weeks without drinking water?
Camels have a slit like closable nostrils which prevents blowing sand from entering the nasal canal. .Their nostrils have the ability to trap water vapor upon exhalation. This water is then reabsorbed in their body as the means of conserving water.
.Camels have long loop of Henle which allows maximum water reabsorption.
.Intestine of camels are extremely long, allowing for maximum water absorption from ingested food.
Adaptation to their blood cells
Typical mammalian red blood cell s are circular while camels are ovular shape resembling human sickle cells. This adaptation allows blood to continually flow even if organism is extremely dehydrated ,a very common occurrence in desert. Camels RBCs are unique due to their ability to extend their lifespan when dehydrated.
The most important feature, the hump is actually composed of adipose tissue and not water. This large region of fat storage has the ability to become metabolize in order to produce energy and water under circumstances of extreme starvation and thirst.
Physical Appearance
Camels have long neck allowing it to reach high plants and see further distances over the desert.
Their fur becomes lighter in color during hotter summer months in order to reflect more light and avoid sunburn.
They have leather like fur pads on their knees and elbows to protect their skin when laying down on hot desert sand.
Camels internal body temperature has far greater range than our bodies. During the hottest months, a camel temperature may fluctuate between 33 to 40 degree centigrade. To protect their brain tissue from heat spikes, their brains can selectively cool themselves while leaving the core temperature in the body unchanged.
Subhanallah! Indeed Allah is the best creator. This ends this article, i hope you have learnt something from this. I would like to thank the team of Imam and science for providing us with such an amazing platform to learn and to make others learn.
